Water on the Go with a Reusable Water Bottle

Water on the Go

With warmer weather approaching, this typically means more time outside. It also means more time sweating, and more times when you’re likely to feel thirsty while you’re out and about. We carry our water bottles with us year round, wherever we go. But this becomes especially important in the summer time.

Why should you carry a reusable water bottle too?

  1. It reduces waste.  If you’re carrying a reusable water bottle with you, there’s no need for you to buy a disposable bottle in order to have something to drink. Fewer disposable bottles results in less plastic in our landfills. According to National Geographic (article HERE), Americans buy over 29 billion disposable water bottles a year. Manufacturers use 17 million barrels of crude oil, enough to keep one million cars going for twelve months, to make all of those bottles.       That is a huge amount of unnecessary waste!
  2. It saves money.  You can fill your bottle for less than a penny at home, but buying that same amount of water in a disposable bottle while you’re out and about could cost you over a dollar.
  3. You can reduce your plastic exposure.  Choose to carry a reusable glass or stainless steel water bottle (or a mason jar with a lid), and you’ll avoid exposure to the dangerous toxins carried in plastics.  We use glass bottles with a silicone sleeve because we have little kids.
  4. It’s convenient.  Instead of having to go and find a place to buy a drink (or to hunt down a drinking fountain, which seem about as difficult to find as a pay phone in many places), you will already have your drink right there with you.

If you don’t like plain water, you can easily flavor it with a squeeze of lemon or lime, or whatever else you want to add. It’s simple, frugal, healthy, convenient, and green to carry your own water bottle. Are you doing it?
