While I tremendously enjoyed our last trip (see HERE) and I’m looking forward to the two other big road trips we have planned for this summer, today my soul is rejoicing in some time spent alone.
We all need to make room for quiet in our lives (see HERE). Whether it’s taking a walk alone (see HERE), taking a relaxing bath (see HERE), spending time reading a good book (see HERE), snuggling with your little one (see HERE), or simply pausing for a minute of purposeful quiet in the morning before you step into the business of the day, it’s those moments when we can reconnect with our better selves.
In that reconnection, we can find the joy that lives in our hearts. We can see what needs tending in our lives. We can find peace amidst the chaos of the busy world. And we can nurture our dreams.
If you don’t already make it a habit, I encourage you to try spending a bit of time alone. In our constantly connected world, solitude is increasingly hard to come by. When you encounter and embrace it, solitude is truly refreshing and lovely.
“When from our better selves we have too long
Been parted by the hurrying world, and droop,
Sick of its business, of its pleasures tired,
How gracious, how benign, is Solitude.”
–William Wordsworth
Do you regularly spend time alone?
I know how you feel. We had a fun trip too but I was so ready to come home. I really needed my routines, the garden, my own home cooked food and alone time. It is hard to make that happen when you travel with kids and are staying with extended family. Homeschooling and kids that go to bed late don’t allow for long periods of alone time anyway so I have to content myself with 15 minute blocks. Eventually they add up.
I’m glad you had a great trip. I know just how you feel about time alone, and agree that every little bit helps. 🙂
