On this day, when we celebrate our country’s declaration of freedom from British rule, may we be thankful for our own freedom as well as be willing to defend the freedom of others.
Freedom of speech. Freedom to disagree. Freedom of expression. Freedom to object. Freedom of thought. Freedom of the press. Freedom to love. Freedom from corporate rule. Freedom to respond. Freedom of faith. Freedom to laugh. Freedom to choose. Freedom to cry. Freedom to protest. Freedom to be ourselves.
Freedom for ourselves. Freedom for our loved ones. Freedom for people who think like us. Freedom for people with whom we disagree.
Let freedom ring!
Happy Independence Day.
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” —Nelson Mandela
