Thought for the Day: Lubbock

Sometimes the simple things in life are the most fulfilling.  Making and eating our favorite double chocolate cookies (recipe HERE) or peanut butter cookies (recipe HERE).  Seeing the joy on someone’s face when we tell them, “Yes!” (see HERE).  Snuggling quietly with one of our favorite people (see HERE) or simply spending time with someone we love (see HERE).  Spending time outdoors (see HERE).  Finding a way to relax quietly (see HERE).

The loud voices in our society tend to say that gatherings need to be big or fancy to be worthwhile.  They postulate to have quality time with our children, we must spend it outside of our homes doing something that’s generally rather expensive.  They imply that to live a good life takes a lot of money.  I disagree.

I find that my family and I feel our best when we infuse our everyday lives and activities with love, togetherness, curiosity, and fun.  It’s not what’s before us, it’s the attitude with which we approach it that makes it worthwhile.  And if it’s something simple, than we can frequently forego the stress that comes with trying to pull off something fancy.  Instead, we’re left free to enjoy the moment.

“A lunch of bread and cheese after a good walk is more enjoyable than a Lord Mayor’s feast.”  –Sir John Lubbock
