The other day, my boys and I were reading our favorite version of The Lion and the Mouse. It’s a wordless, illustrated version put together by Jerry Pinkney. My boys love the fact that a small mouse can help to save the life of a mighty lion. In it, they see the power that lies in every small creature.
While this version has no words, we always end with the quote from the version I grew up with.
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” — Aesop
With those simple words, we all remember that with each thing we do during the day, if we perform it with kindness, we have improved the world around us. We never know what the ripple effects of a single act of kindness will impact. And, wonderfully, acting with kindness always leaves us feeling better ourselves.
May we all treat each other with kindness. Indeed, we’ll all be blessed if we do.
