We go through a lot of hand soap in our family. While foaming hand soap is expensive to buy in the store, it is very inexpensive and simple to make on your own. In addition to cost effectiveness and ease, you can control the ingredients to make certain they are free of chemical nasties. Finally, making your own hand soap allows you to customize the scent as well as make it as strong or as subtle as you like.… Continue reading

Simple, All-Natural, Homemade Deodorant
I make a lot of my own natural skin and body care products. Amazing Face Serum (recipe HERE), DIY Foaming Hand Soap (recipe HERE), Homemade Bath Salts (recipe HERE), Homemade All-Natural Diaper Rash Cream (recipe HERE), Hand Sanitizer (recipe HERE), and Fizzy Bath Bombs (recipe HERE). These simple recipes are all a part of our everyday household life (with the current exception of the diaper rash cream, since we’re now done with diapers — see HERE), though that recipe also makes a great skin salve for other body areas that need some extra support.… Continue reading
Preparing for Cold and Flu Season
Cold and Flu season is upon us. As we head into the winter months, we spending more time indoors. This means we’re spending more time surrounded by the dry air produced by forced-air heating. We get more-frequent exposure to the germs that come from other people’s coughs, sneezes, and touch. We also increase our general sickness exposure by spending more time gathering with family and friends. … Continue reading
DIY Foaming Hand Soap
If your family is anything like mine, everyone loves foaming hand soap (if we buy a pre-made one, we use THIS). My boys love that it magically foams up, even before they begin scrubbing. I love that it gets my kids excited about washing their hands. It also helps to reduce waste as it give them a handful of soap in only one squirt, instead of my boys repeatedly pumping regular soap into their hands until they feel like they have enough.… Continue reading
Flavored Water: A Healthy Alternative to Sweetened Beverages
All of us need to drink a lot of water every day. The human body works best when it gets at least 1 ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight. That’s a lot of water, and most people I know don’t drink nearly that amount.
If you have trouble drinking that much plain water, you might try flavored water. … Continue reading
Some see a Weed, I see a Wish
“What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
With Spring’s arrival, all sorts of people are out working in their yards. It’s wonderful that this time of year gets people outdoors and beautifies our cities and towns. However, for many people, their vision of a beautiful yard sends them running for chemical herbicides and pesticides to rid their landscapes of dandelions and other “pests”.… Continue reading
Going Completely Sugar Free
One of the things I’ve been doing to support my body in its recovery from my head injury (see HERE) is to eliminate all sugars from my diet. (You can read about other ways I’ve helped my concussion recovery HERE).
When I say cut all sugars, what probably comes to mind is setting aside cakes and cookies and other sorts of treats. … Continue reading
Wash Stress Down the Drain with Homemade Bath Salts
This last month has held a fair share of stresses. It’s taken me over a month to recover from the severe concussion that occurred as a result of a fainting spell (see HERE). Add to the stress of injury and recovery the fact that life does not stop so I can recover, and that as I’m feeling better there are seemingly mountains of things that need to be done, and the pressure grows.… Continue reading

Just over three weeks ago, I passed out and hit my head very hard as I came down. The result was a severe concussion.
I’ve spent the better part of three weeks healing from this head injury, and while things are still not quite right, I’m definitely feeling much better than I was.
Here are 7 things that have helped tremendously as I’ve been recovering from a concussion:

How I’m preparing for Cold and Flu Season
Fall is here, winter is approaching, and already I’m hearing lots of people sniffling and coughing. We’re all spending more time indoors, and heaters are coming on more frequently. The season of colds and flu seems to be settling in.
While I firmly believe that a healthy diet and plenty of sleep are the best ways to keep our bodies healthy, I also keep some other natural immune system supports and remedies around our house in order to help our bodies if we’re exposed to a virus or if we feel ourselves coming down with something.… Continue reading
