This last week we got a call from our credit card company asking us about some charges that didn’t seem consistent with our purchase history. It turns out, the charges were fraudulent.
While our credit card company was great about handling this (we won’t be responsible for any charges we didn’t make), it’s a bother to change the card number with all of the services we have bill that card on Auto-Pay. Especially, since this is the second time we’ve had to do this in the last 6 months.
So this time, as I figure out everything that is auto-billed to our credit card on a monthly or quarterly basis, I am making a list that contains the name of the company, our account number, and the company’s phone number.
While I hope this won’t ever happen again, it’ll make things far simpler if it does. And since we have no idea where people got our number (it seems they randomly put in numbers and hit ours), there doesn’t seem to be something we can do to prevent it.
Also, since I have to look up all of this information anyway, it doesn’t take much extra time to write it all down in one place. And if we encounter this problem again, I’ll have a list on hand that helps me ensure I don’t miss something important.
So this is something that will simplify my life in the future. And it makes our financial payment records a little bit more detailed and complete.
Do you keep a Master List of Auto-Payments? Have you had a credit card number stolen and had to change Auto-Pay settings as a result? Do you have suggestions for an easy way to do this?
