Our lives all have different seasons. Some seasons are busier than others. This true over the course of years. It is also true over the course of weeks.
You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting daily on my blog for the last couple of weeks. During this time, a several unexpected things have occurred. (I’ll post more about one big issue that arose in the coming week or two). As a result, there have been more urgent demands on my time than I anticipated.
This left me with a choice to make regarding my other commitments: where do I focus my remaining time. For me, the choice was simple. My first priority is always my family, so I chose to focus on them.
I love to write. I have a lot of fun posting things on this website. I have big dreams for this site and what it will become. I work hard to post high-quality content on a regular basis. But I know when I need to take a break and direct my attention to my core commitments. This was one of those times.
I think it’s important that everyone know this about themselves. We all have multiple commitments in our lives. And there will be times when we have to take a break from one in order to direct our energies toward the needs of another.
In those times, we need to give ourselves grace. No one can keep every single ball in the air all of the time. Sometimes it’s very difficult to take a break, or to admit that we can’t do everything, but we’re all human and we each have only 24 hours in a day.
A wonderful way to simplify your life is to know your core priorities. Then, when you’re faced with a choice between several competing urgencies, you can easily choose which one supports the life you desire to live.
Which of your priorities trump all others? Are you good at Taking a Break when you need to?
