Are you looking for a refreshing drink on for a hot summer day? One of our favorite summer time beverages, which works just as well on a sunny spring day, is sun tea. Sun tea takes no fossil fuels to make it; instead it’s made by pure sun power. It also tastes great, and is a zero- or low-calorie healthy drink (depending on if and how you decide to sweeten it). My boys were so excited to get it going this morning. My 6-year-old filled our tea ball, placed it in the jar, added the water, and took it outside. My toddler spent all day pointing to the jar on our patio and announcing, “Tea, tea, tea, tea.”
Simple Sun Tea Recipe
1 tea ball filled with tea leaves of choice, or a few tea bags
Fresh water
1 glass jar (mine is ½ gallon)
Put your tea ball or tea bags in your glass jar. Fill jar to the top with water. Let it sit out in the sun all day, or until brewed to your desired strength. Store in the refrigerator until ready to drink.
Notes: We used an organic herbal hibiscus blend this time, but we’ve made sun tea using a wide assortment of teas and they’ve all turned out great.
I’d love to know what you think of sun tea. We think it’s fantastic to drink tea that’s been brewed by and infused with the warmth of the sun.
