Paleo S’mores

Paleo S'moresIf you’ve been reading my blog this past week, then this post probably comes as no surprise.

After reading over and over about “Chocolate Marshmallow Fudge Delight” (in Rattletrap Car), my 6-year-old became very excited about the idea of marshmallows and my description of S’mores. As a result, we decided to make S’mores as a special treat for our End of Summer Celebration.

Making S’mores is easy. Making Paleo S’mores is a bit trickier, as you’ll likely have to make all of the ingredients from scratch. For our excursion into this summertime campfire staple, I made Homemade Honey-Sweetened Marshmallows (recipe HERE) and Homemade Grain-Free Graham Crackers (recipe HERE). I decided to buy a bar of Organic Super-Dark Chocolate.

If you’d like to make S’mores yourself, either because you’re trying to make them a bit healthier (though there is nothing remotely health-like about this treat – it’s just better than the highly processed store version), or because you want to make an allergy-friendly version, or simply because it’s fun to make things yourself (especially marshmallows!), these recipes will be helpful to you.

Here’s how we made our Paleo S’mores:

Dark Chocolate Bar

Roast a marshmallow over a campfire (or a BBQ in your backyard, as the case may be).  We use sticks like THESE.

Place the marshmallow on top of a graham cracker.

Top with a bar of chocolate.

You can top this with another graham cracker, if desired, or eat it (as we did) open-faced.

Serve and enjoy.

NOTES: One batch of Graham Crackers will not come close to giving you enough crackers for this big batch of marshmallows. If you want to make S’mores out of all of the marshmallows (or even half of the marshmallows), you’ll need more than one batch of Graham Crackers.
