My boys are huge fans of tree climbing, and I am a big proponent of letting them climb. Over the years they both grown in their proficiency and daring as climbers. While I often find need to remind myself not to let my own worries – unless there’s a genuine safety issue, of course – get in the way of their learning, I remain a big advocate of letting them climb.
When my boys are climbing trees at a park, other parents often give me dirty looks. In spite of this, however, I let my boys climb. I also remind myself that there are many things kids learn by climbing trees. You can find my article, 9 Things Learned by Climbing Trees, HERE. You can also read about how I deal with other parents who may disapprove of tree climbing.
And, in case you’re curious, I still haven’t been asked by anyone who shoots me a censorious glance or leads their own children away from mine why I allow my boys to climb trees.
Do you let your children climb trees? Do you climb trees yourself?
