Homemade All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

Jump to recipe

Homemade All-Purpose Cleaning SprayAs part of my ongoing quest to remove controllable toxins from our lives (I figure there will always be things beyond my control, but I try to eliminate chemical nasties where I can) I started making my own cleaners to use around the house. I love knowing exactly what’s in the cleaners I’m using. Further, I can use essential oils not only to make them smell great, but also to increase their effectiveness.

If you don’t want to make your own cleaning or beauty products, Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner is a fantastic alternative. If you’re not making your own, this is one of the best pre-made products that you can find.

If you’re interested in making your own cleaners, here’s the recipe for the All-Purpose Spray Cleaner that I use in my kitchen and bathroom.

All-Purpose Cleaning Spray:
1/4 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon Castile soap
15 drops of essential oil
Spray bottle

Mix well, and store in a spray bottle. Gently shake before using.

I use the following essential oils in my homemade cleaners. You can choose to use one or more based on what you’re cleaning as well as which smells appeal to you.

— Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) oil is great for anti-mildew/mold, making it ideal for bathroom use.
— Lavender is a natural anti-bacterial.
— Thieves oil is a natural anti-microbial.
— Lemon is a natural acid, bleaching agent, and smells light and fresh.
