DIY Foaming Hand Soap

DIY Foaming Hand SoapIf your family is anything like mine, everyone loves foaming hand soap (if we buy a pre-made one, we use THIS).  My boys love that it magically foams up, even before they begin scrubbing.  I love that it gets my kids excited about washing their hands.  It also helps to reduce waste as it give them a handful of soap in only one squirt, instead of my boys repeatedly pumping regular soap into their hands until they feel like they have enough.

If you’ve bought foaming hand soap in a store, you’ve probably noticed that it can be more expensive than regular soap.  But once you’ve read the below recipe, you’ll see how easy and inexpensive it is to make your own homemade version.

Making your own also allows you to control the ingredients that are in your soap.  Instead of the myriad of chemicals typically found in store-bought soaps, this version has 4 simple, clean ingredients that will not harm your health (again, if we buy premade, we use THIS because it is clean and natural).

Homemade Foaming Hand Soap gives you the ability to customize the scent to your own liking (or to add no scent at all!).  Some of our favorites include: Lavender, a natural anti-bacterial; Thieves, a natural anti-microbial; Lemon, a light, fresh smell; Peppermint, a fun, invigorating scent; and Stress Away, which makes washing your hands into a mini tropical vacation.  They all smell fantastic.  I get all of my essential oils HERE (you can read more about why I use these oils HERE).

By using this quick and easy DIY Foaming Hand Soap recipe, you’ll never need to buy another bottle of pre-produced foaming hand soap again.  And if you already have a store-bought soap, that’s great.  You can reuse the container by refilling it with your homemade soap.

DIY Foaming Hand Soap

2 tablespoons Vegetable Glycerin
2 tablespoons Castile Soap
10 drops Essential Oil (I get mine HERE)
Water
Foaming Hand Soap Dispenser

Add the glycerin, castile soap, and essential oil to your foaming hand soap dispenser.  Fill the remainder of the jar with water.  Swirl until mixed well.

NOTE: My jar is an 8-ounce jar.  If your jar is bigger, you may need to double the other ingredients (or increase them proportionally).

This is our favorite way to make foaming hand soap! So much healthier and economical than that stuff you buy at the stores!

We do this type of thing as well! Question – where do you purchase your dispensers? We usually get ours at Whole Foods but find that after a while the spring wears out and we need to replace the container. Maybe that’s just the way it is, but figured I’d ask in case you’ve found a better option.

    • These particular dispensers came from specialtybottle.com. I also generally reuse bottles that we’ve used previously (I found my bottles from Young Living started out containing their foaming handsoap lasted the longest — but those springs wore out eventually, too). When those wore out, we got these. 🙂
