What do you do when you encounter a task that feels very big and difficult, something that you’ve never done before but needs to be done? That’s what I’m facing at this moment.
Everyday Mindful Living** is less than a month old, but I realized that I signed up with the wrong web host for this site. I cannot implement some of the features that I envision having on this site if I keep it in its current web location. As a result, I am getting ready to switch web hosts.
I am not a very tech-savvy person. So, to me, this prospect feels huge and scary. Even though I’ve read several tutorials that assure me that I can do it if I follow a particular series of steps, I’m rather nervous about somehow botching this transfer. Yet, I know it’s important for the long-term future of EverydayMindfulLiving.com.**
So, while breathing deeply, I am putting together a plan. I have a list of steps that I need to complete. I have gone over a worst-case scenario – that I somehow do something so outrageously wrong that I need to start over – which is pretty unlikely, and even if it happens, I have my posts backed up and can repost them And I’m getting ready to leap. This transition will take place sometime over the next few days (to be read, when I have time to work on it without a child sitting on my lap).
What does this mean for you? In the short term, I’m hoping that it means nothing. If all goes smoothly, this transition should be both invisible and seamless. The web address for Everyday Mindful Living** will remain EverydayMindfulLiving.com.** I should be able to transfer my few loyal followers over to the new host. I will still be posting great content every day.
In the long term, I’m hoping that this change will allow me to bring a little bit more functionality to the site (e.g., better search features and a true store set-up) as well as give me a bit more control over Everyday Mindful Living’s** appearance and format.
So, ideally this will have no impact up on you, aside from allowing me to provide you with a better website. That said, if I disappear for a couple of days over the next week or so, please know that I’ll be back very soon. I plan to still post daily at EverydayMindfulLiving.com.** And if you are a subscriber and somehow get dropped, I apologize in advance. Please come and find me again.
I look forward to reporting back next week that the transfer has gone smoothly.
**UPDATE: This site used to be called Everyday Mindful Living. It is now called Everyday Intentional Living (you can read about the reason behind the name change HERE).
